Lot 3504 SHARPS MEACHAM STYLE CARTRIDGE CONVERSION

BREECHLOADING "BUFFALO RIFLE". Cal. 40-70 Sharps Bottleneck. S# 10755. Bbl. 29 1/4" tapered rnd. replacement bbl. measuring 3/4" across at the muzzle. Dovetail mounted front sight with broken bead. Rear sight holes are fitted with plug screws. Tang sight with disc aperture. Original sight holes on top tang are plugged. New Model 1859 military carbine conversion action. The primer feed mechanism is removed from the sideplate. The action has re-case colored finish and is fit with double set triggers. Straight grip walnut stock with steel carbine buttplate and point pattern hand checkering as done by Meacham at the time of conversion. Later schnabel tipped walnut forearm with a swell around the front attachment screw having coarse checkering that is not consistent with Meacham work. Weight: 10lbs, 0.8oz. CONDITION: bbl. retains 90% lightly faded Meacham blue. Action retains 70% lightly faded re-case color hardened finish. Left side of action is cracked through the extractor screw area. Forearm has good finish and checkering with a crack between the rear attachment screw and the receiver. Stock has lightly worn finish showing handling marks and small dents.
